What is the best wood to burn?

Northcrest Stoves installs wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves, chimney liners and flue systems for homeowners across Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne and Tyne and Wear.

Northcrest Stoves is a stove installation business serving homeowners across Northumberland, Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider Tyne and Wear area. We fit wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves, line chimneys, install twin-wall flue systems and prepare fireplaces and hearths so a stove can be installed safely.
A stove is a long-term addition to your home. It should be safe, it should suit the room, and it should be easy to live with. Those three things guide everything we do.
A stove connects a fire to your living space, so the installation has to be right. We follow Part J of the Building Regulations and the guidance in Approved Document J, along with the stove and flue manufacturers' instructions. Every installation is tested before we hand it over, and completed work is certified through a competent person scheme such as HETAS, or signed off by Building Control.
We would rather tell you that a smaller stove will suit your room, or that your chimney needs work, than sell you something that will not perform. If a stove is not the right choice for your home, we will say so. We do not promise savings on heating bills, because those depend on your home, how you use the stove and what you pay for fuel.
Our quotations are written and itemised, so you can see what you are paying for, compare them fairly and make a decision in your own time. If something changes during the job, such as a hidden defect in the chimney, we explain it and agree the next step with you before going further.
Stove installation can involve dust, masonry and work at height. We protect floors and furniture, keep the work area as tidy as we can and clear up properly at the end of each day.
Every job starts with an enquiry and a look at your property. We check the chimney or possible flue route, the fireplace and hearth, ventilation and the room itself. From there we recommend a sensible approach and put it in a written quote. When you are ready to go ahead, we agree a date, install and test the stove, take you through how to use it and arrange the certification.
You can read more about each stage on our service pages, including wood-burning stove installation, chimney lining and flue systems for homes without a chimney.
We think you should be able to check an installer's credentials for yourself. Our qualifications and certification details are shown on this website, and the competent person schemes provide online registers you can search. Our useful links page includes the relevant ones.
We cover towns and villages across Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, from the coast to the Tyne Valley. See the areas we cover, or ask for a free quote to tell us about your home.
